{"id":689,"date":"2019-09-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T13:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/humanrightstracker.com\/?page_id=689"},"modified":"2025-01-28T16:30:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T16:30:54","slug":"about-equality-human-rights-commission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/humanrightstracker.com\/en\/about-equality-human-rights-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Equality and Human Rights Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Our role<\/h2>\n<p>The Equality and Human Rights Commission, other UK national human rights institutions (NHRIs), Parliament and civil society all have a role to play in holding government to account for its human rights record.<\/p>\n<p>As a NHRI, one of our jobs is to monitor the UK&#8217;s compliance with the seven UN human rights treaties it has signed and ratified (agreed to follow). We monitor the UK government&#8217;s performance across these treaties, and provide information to the UN in what are known as &#8216;shadow reports&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>We work closely with the other UK NHRIs on monitoring compliance with the UK&#8217;s international human rights obligations: the Scottish Human Rights Commission, with whom we share our remit in Scotland, and the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.equalityhumanrights.com\/our-work\/our-human-rights-work\">Read more about our role in monitoring compliance<\/a> with international human rights standards in Great Britain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our role The Equality and Human Rights Commission, other UK national human rights institutions (NHRIs), Parliament and civil society all have a role to play in holding government to account for its human rights record.
