CERD recommendations 2024, paragraph 12

UN recommendation

Plain English recommendation

Government should:
Review and repeal any laws that lower human rights protections in line with the CERD. Any changes to the human rights and migration frameworks must only strengthen those human rights protections and must align with articles 1 and 2 of the CERD. The government should prioritise adopting the Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland and ensure it aligns with the CERD and any other applicable human rights standards.

Original UN recommendation

The Committee recommends that the State party review and repeal all legislative provisions that reduce the level of protection of the human rights under the Convention and that it ensures that any changes to the current human rights and migration framework strengthen the protection of human rights, in line with articles 1 and 2 of the Convention. Recalling its previous concluding observations, the Committee recommends that the State party expedite the process of adopting the bill of rights for Northern Ireland and ensure that it is in line with the provisions of the Convention and with other international human rights standards.
