Government should: (a) Hold businesses responsible for meeting legal standards, including on international and national human rights, labour and the environment; (b) Ensure that businesses fully consider how their work affects the environment, health and children’s rights, talk to the public about these effects, and publicise their plans to deal with them.


Original UN recommendation

The Committee recommends that the State party: (a) Ensure the legal accountability of business enterprises and their subsidiaries operating in or managed from the State party’s territory in relation to international and national human rights, labour, environmental and other standards; (b) Require companies to undertake assessments of, consultations on and full public disclosure of the environmental, health-related and children’s rights impacts of their business activities and their plans to address such impacts.
